The Canton Tea

Things to Do in Canton, MS

October 2026

Canton’s free monthly community calendar — every festival, ballgame, and free day worth your time, plus what’s good at The Well.

Sweat. Sisterhood. Soul.

October is Canton at its best. The Flea Market takes over the Square, the State Fair lights up Jackson for eleven days, Madison goes full scarecrow, and Friday nights belong to Tiger football. The evenings are finally cooling off — perfect weather to actually get out there.

Here’s the whole month, day by day, with everything linked so you can grab the details or put it on the calendar. Two quick notes from us first: Ignite Bootcamp is back, and Sit & Get Fit added an afternoon class. If your church, school, or organization has something coming up, we’ll run it — scroll down to send it in.

This Month at The Well

Ignite Bootcamp is back

Returns Monday, Oct 5 · Mon & Wed, 5:30pm · 217 West Peace St.

Bootcamp’s back on the floor for fall — Ignite returns Monday, October 5, Mondays and Wednesdays at 5:30, with strength-and-conditioning work that meets you exactly where you are. Every move has an option and you set the pace, so first-timers and regulars sweat side by side. And for the folks who’d rather move before dinner than after dark, Sit & Get Fit added a new 4:30pm class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Two easy ways to get your fall started.

Looking ahead

November sneaks up fast. Clocks fall back Sunday, Nov 1 — an extra hour of sleep, and one less hour of evening light. Then the holidays roll in: Madison’s Merry Market lands Nov 21 at Liberty Park, and Canton’s own Christmas Festival — the City of Lights starts transforming the Historic Square before the month is out. More on all of it next time.

Got an event coming up?

Church program, fundraiser, homecoming, cookout with a cause — if Canton should know, we’ll run it.

Worth knowing

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

It’s the most common cancer among Black women — and we’re more likely to be diagnosed young and to face the toughest forms, which makes catching it early everything. If you’re 40 or up (or younger with it in your family), let this be the nudge to schedule the mammogram you’ve been putting off. Twenty minutes, once a year. Put it on the calendar like you would anybody else’s appointment.

The days are getting shorter — move your movement earlier.

It’s not January that wrecks a routine, it’s October: the sun clocks out by six and the couch wins. The fix isn’t willpower, it’s an earlier anchor — leave work, go straight there, don’t pass the driveway. That’s honestly why we added the 4:30 Sit & Get Fit and brought Ignite back at 5:30: catch a class while it’s still light, and still be home by dark.

Whatever you get into this month — the Flea Market, a ballgame, a class after work — do one thing that’s just for you. You spend the rest of it on everybody else.

See you at The Well.
